Company history

Over 25 years of expertise

Transport companies are not always the most professional set-ups and my aim was to bring a sense of integrity and efficiency to the trade. I wanted to create a company that would deliver what was promised, so that our clients can rely on us completely. Customer service is paramount.
Terry Higgins

TJ was founded in 1994 by Owner and Chairman Terry Higgins, who, after many years employed in the transport and quarrying trades, decided it was time for a change. TJ started off as a haulage company, sourcing suppliers and delivering construction materials and aggregates.

THE EARLY YEARS

The Head Office was opened in Fareham, Hampshire, in the early 2000’s. Once the company was well-established and growing steadily, Terry decided to diversify the business by entering the waste industry.

In 2004, Terry purchased an existing skip business which was located in Havant and TJ Waste was born. The starting point was three skip loaders, one roll-on-roll-off (RORO) vehicle,  260 x 6 and 8-yard skips, four 20-yard RORO skips and 12 x 35-yard RORO skips.

Two grab lorries were purchased in 2007, initially to service a COLAS contract in Portsmouth, and within a few years, TJ were undertaking commercial work as well. From 2010 our commercial waste management service really started to thrive and from then on, the business grew steadily year on year.

2012-2016

In 2012, TJ Waste moved to the Tipner site, which is now home to the Pounds Yard Materials Recovery Facility,  a place that commercial businesses can bring their waste and our team will sort, recycle and dispose of it.

In 2014, the Northwood Farm facility in Yapton was purchased, followed by the Dibles Wharf site in Southampton in 2016. This enabled TJ to offer commercial tipping services that were accessible to businesses across the whole of the southern region.

today

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, TJ has continued to do well, and in 2020, the uptake of our skip hire service was at a record high. During this time 80 new skips were purchased to meet the demand and we have now taken on a full-time welder to maintain our collection to ensure they remain in tip top condition.

Today, TJ Waste boasts a large fleet of vehicles encompassing vans, skip lorries, grab lorries and sweepers, a thriving skip service and a growing portfolio of commercial waste clients. The company is continuing to grow and has clients all over the south and south-west regions, with plans for ongoing development in place.
