Providing assistance to Mission Christmas!

Mission christmas

TJ Waste has donated a skip free of charge to Mission Christmas, a Wave 105 Cash for Kids campaign that provides support to children living in poverty at Christmas.

TJ was contacted by the Cash for Kids charity after they struggled to find a skip and TJ was more than happy to step in and provide the skip as needed.

They delivered the 12-yard ‘jumbo’ skip to the Mission Christmas HQ in Hedge End on 12 November and will collect it when the campaign ends on 23 December. If the skip becomes full before this end date, TJ has agreed to swap it for an empty one at no charge.

All the waste removed will be transported to one of our Materials Recovery Facilities, either in Southampton or Portsmouth, for sorting and recycling. As many waste items as possible will be recycled or reused in line with our policy to divert all we can from landfill.

We have established recycling routes for a wide range of materials and we process all waste items in line with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) protocol.

TJ hires out skips for up to two weeks at a time as standard, (unless agreed otherwise) offering a 5% discount for those returned within four days. We have skips ranging in size from 2 yard ‘mini’ skips, up to 12 yard ‘jumbo’ skips, with three sizes in between and larger 17 and 35 yard roll on, roll off skips ideal for construction and demolition work.

Cash for Kids is a grant-giving charity run by Wave 105, which is part of Bauer Media, a worldwide media group that operates the largest commercial radio network in the UK. Their mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in our communities who are affected by poverty, illness, neglect or have additional needs.

They believe that all children should be able to express their individuality, achieve their potential and live life to the full. They work with grass-roots organisations that aim to make a difference to young lives, directly supporting families who often have nowhere else to go. In 2020, Cash for Kids raised over £19 million across the UK, supporting more than 396,000 children.

This year the Wave 105 Cash for Kids team are estimating that the Mission Christmas campaign will help in excess of 20,000 babies, children and teenagers in the south; families that are living with financial hardship through job losses, sickness, zero rate contracts and bereavement, so it’s an extremely worthy cause.

Wave 105’s Cash for Kids Charity Manager Samantha Tanner said: “The logistics of Mission Christmas is a massive part of the appeal and the part that most people don’t see. Without help from companies like TJ, we wouldn’t be able to help the number of children that we do, so thank you so much!”

You can get involved in Mission Christmas by donating a gift for a child, or by making a one-off or regular donation. All gift donations must be new and unwrapped and taken to one of the drop-off points across the UK. Visit www.wave105.com/mission for  more info.
