TJ awarded Victorious waste management contract for sixth year

TJ Waste has been awarded the waste management contract for the Victorious Festival for the sixth year, which is a testament to the high level of customer service TJ provides. The festival will take place on Southsea Common from 26-28 August.

The festival houses five stages – Common Stage, Castle Stage, Seaside, World Music and Acoustic – each hosting live music throughout the day and evening. There is also a kids’ arena, a beats and swing arena, a comedy tent, a premium enclosure and even a circus!

TJ will be supplying around 300 wheelie bins for use across the entire festival site. TJ will deliver the bins in the week leading up to the start of the festival to ensure all the bins are in place ready for kick-off on Friday. In the early hours of Saturday and Sunday, a team from TJ will go onsite to empty all the bins in preparation for the day’s festivities. A team will be onsite on each of the three days to continually empty the bins to ensure cleanliness and efficiency.

There is an offsite campsite at Farlington Fields for those attending the whole weekend. TJ will also be responsible for the waste management on the campsite, providing wheelie bins for general waste and recyclables for campers to use. TJ will also play an integral part in clearing the site at the end of the festival, ensuring all refuse is collected and that the bins are removed within 24 hours of the site being vacated.

TJ will provide a number of HGVs to transport and empty the wheelie bins and collect recycling which is segregated on site. All the waste will be taken back to TJ’s Tipner Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for sorting to ensure that all unsegregated recyclables are extracted and recycled. We also have three other MRFs at Southampton, another in Portsmouth and at Yapton.

We’re dedicated to diverting waste from landfill and endeavour to recycle up to 100% of the waste we handle. We have established recycling routes for a wide range of materials and any materials that cannot be reused or recycled are directed down the Energy from Waste (EfW) path wherever possible. We process all materials in line with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) protocol.

TJ’s General Manager Luke Haskell said: “We’re thrilled to be providing full waste management services to one of the biggest and most prestigious festivals in the south. Our whole team works hard to ensure everything goes smoothly and that an exceptional service is delivered throughout the three days as well in the lead up to the event, getting everything in place, and in the aftermath when the clean up takes place.”

This year’s Victorious line-up includes Stereophonics, Bombay Bicycle Club and Primal Scream on Friday; Paolo Nutini, Bastille, The Wombats and Declan McKenna on Saturday; and Sam Fender, Anne-Marie, Nothing But Thieves, Suede and Becky Hill on Sunday.
