TJ helps get Gosport allotments ship shape!

TJ recently supplied 11 mixed waste skips to Gosport Borough Council, providing assistance in their bid to get the town’s allotment sites cleared and ready for the new spring/summer growing season.

The skips ordered were all 6 yard skips – also known as maxi skips – which are one of the most frequently hired skips. These skips can accommodate approximately 50-60 filled bin bags of waste, which makes them ideal for many projects and uses.

TJ offers versatile skip hire services throughout Hampshire and the surrounding areas including Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport, Southampton, Chichester, Havant and Petersfield. We now also offer a nationwide skip-hire service, whereby we work with our network of trusted partners to arrange the waste solution your business needs, wherever you are in the country.

Gosport has a number of allotment sites across the town, offering over 820 plots in total and giving many green-fingered individuals and families the opportunity to grow their own produce.

Our online quoting system makes it quick and easy for customers to book a skip for the required dates and time frame. Delivery and collection dates are selected at the point of booking, with standard hire times of up to 14 days unless requested otherwise.

A 5% discount is offered to customers who book the collection date within 4 days of delivery, and there is also the option to do a ‘skip hire exchange’ whereby your full skip will be swapped for an empty one if you require a skip on-site for longer periods or for on-going projects.

The waste disposed of was largely green waste and gardening debris as you would expect. Upon collection, this waste was taken to TJ’s Portsmouth-based Materials Recovery Facility for sorting and segregating. As much of this waste as possible was repurposed, with anything that could not be, being sent for incineration and contributing to Energy from Waste (EfW).

TJ is dedicated to diverting waste from landfill and we endeavour to recycle up to 100% of the waste we handle. We have established recycling routes for a wide range of materials from the standard card, paper, metal and plastic bottles, to the more tricky materials such as rubble, hard plastics and mattresses. TJ are always working behind the scenes to find new ways to recycle the materials that have proved difficult in the past.

TJ processes all materials in line with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) protocol. WRAP’s mission is to accelerate the move to a sustainable, resource-efficient economy by re-inventing how we design, produce and sell products, re-thinking how we use and consume products, and re-defining what is possible through reuse and recycling.

This is the second time that Gosport Borough Council has utilised our services for this purpose and we hope to continue this working partnership in the future.
