TJ WINS VICTORIOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT CONTRACT FOR SEVENTH YEAR RUNNING

TJ Waste has secured the waste management contract for the Victorious Festival for the seventh year, demonstrating the consistently high level of customer service we provide. The festival will take place on Southsea Common from 25-27 August 2023.

The festival houses a number of stages including Common Stage, Castle Stage, World Music, Acoustic and Comedy, each hosting live music and entertainment throughout the day and evening. There is also a kids’ arena, a beats and swing arena, a premium enclosure and a mini funfair!

We will be supplying around 400 wheelie bins for use across the entire festival site. We’ll deliver the bins in the week leading up to the start of the festival to ensure they’re in place ready for kick-off on Friday. In the early hours of Saturday and Sunday, a team from TJ will go onsite to empty all the bins in preparation for the day’s festivities. A team will be onsite on each of the three days to continually empty the bins to ensure cleanliness and efficiency.

There is an offsite campsite at Farlington Fields for those attending the whole weekend. We will also be responsible for the waste management on the campsite, providing wheelie bins for general waste and recyclables for campers to use. We will also play an integral part in clearing the site at the end of the festival, ensuring all refuse is collected and that the bins are removed within 24 hours of the site being vacated.

We’ll provide a number of HGVs to transport and empty the wheelie bins and collect recycling which is segregated on site. All the waste will be taken back to TJ’s Tipner Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for sorting to ensure that all unsegregated recyclables are extracted and recycled. We also have three other MRFs at Southampton, another in Portsmouth and at Yapton.

We’re dedicated to diverting waste from landfill and endeavour to recycle up to 100% of the waste we handle. We have established recycling routes for a wide range of materials and any materials that cannot be reused or recycled are directed down the Energy from Waste (EfW) path wherever possible.

We process all materials in line with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) protocol. WRAP’s mission is to accelerate the move to a sustainable, resource-efficient economy by re-inventing how we design, produce and sell products, re-thinking how we use and consume products, and re-defining what is possible through reuse and recycling.

TJ’s General Manager Luke Haskell said: “We’re thrilled to be providing full waste management services to one of the biggest and most popular festivals in the south for another year! It’s a big operation from the pre-planning and bin deliveries to site, to the event itself when we’re continuously on duty to ensure everything goes smoothly, and then the post event clean up. Our whole team works hard to ensure an exceptional service is delivered throughout the event period.”

This year’s Victorious line-up includes Jamiroquai, Pete Tong and Raye on Friday; Kasabian, Alt-J and the Kaiser Chiefs on Saturday; and Mumford & Sons, Ellie Goulding, Ben Howard and Sigrid on Sunday.
