Portsmouth Marathon 2020 cancelled in the interests of safety

It has been announced that in the interests of safety, this year’s Portsmouth Marathon will not be taking place due to the coronavirus pandemic and the rising infection rate that the country is currently experiencing. Portsmouth City Council have advised that they are unable to consider any further applications for events on their land until after 31 December at the earliest.

TJ are the official sponsors of the Portsmouth Coastal Waterside Marathon. They support the event by supplying much-needed waste management services free of charge and have done for the past three years. They are scheduled to remain sponsors until 2022 when it will be reviewed and are looking forward to getting involved again next year when the event resumes.

TJ usually provides four eurobins, which are placed along the route to ensure that any waste generated throughout the event is captured, minimising littering and pollution. TJ delivers the bins to the site the day before the event to ensure that they are located in the optimal positions ahead of time.

TJ also supplies a 7.5 tonne van and driver to enable the bins to be emptied and the waste is transported back to TJ’s materials recovery facility in Tipner for sorting and recycling. As much as possible is recycled or reused in line with TJ’s policy to divert as much as possible from landfill.

The Portsmouth Marathon event has been running for 10 years and also offers a Festive Half Marathon option as well as the 50k Ultra for those wanting to push themselves a bit further.

The marathon route starts at South Parade Pier, going to the end of the Hayling Billy Line and back. It’s a unique multi-terrain marathon with fantastic views across Langstone Harbour. All 2020 entrants will be automatically transferred to the 2021 event, which is scheduled for Sunday 19 December 2021.

Believe and Achieve Events Ltd are proud to organise and run this event to raise money for many local charities including the Rowans Hospice, All Call Signs and the Portsmouth RNLI, which is the lifeboat station that provides search and rescue for the eastern Solent and has been doing so since 1965.

Believe and Achieve offer one-to-one and group personal training sessions at your home or in the open air. Ideal for those looking to lose or manage weight, improve their fitness, tone up or train for a particular event such as a marathon. They also deliver effective motivational and supportive life coaching.
