TJ is supporting Heartbeat’s upcoming Heart & Stroll event and has taken part in the publicity video, which is being created to promote the event.
TJ Waste’s Commercial Director, Luke Haskell, attended the video shoot this week (Wednesday 23 April) at Southampton Common. Those taking part in the shoot were asked to meet the Heartbeat team at the entrance to the Common, where some participants and sponsors, Luke included, were interviewed prior to starting the walk.
Once the interviews were complete, everyone was asked to commence the walk to enable footage to be captured, along with shots of group conversations, families taking part and people interacting.
The shoot concluded with the camera crew gaining footage of children and families participating in warm-up stretches, interacting with Captain America who was in attendance, and taking selfies, all while having fun.
The video is expected to be released in early May to promote the Heart & Stroll event, which will take place on 29 June 2025. Keep your eye on Heartbeat’s website and social media channels to view the video.
The charity supports cardiac patients and their families in the Wessex Region and beyond, ensuring that those being treated for heart conditions receive the best care to treat their condition.
The combination of world-class clinical teams and significant investment in the Wessex Cardiac Centre at the University Hospital Southampton have turned it into one of the foremost Cardiac Centres in the UK and internationally.
Since 1992, well over £20 million has been raised for this cause, enabling crucial improvements to be made to the Centre. Some of the most notable projects include the creation of Heartbeat House, the children’s Ocean Ward, the Heartbeat Education Centre, and YACU – the Young Adults Cardiac Unit – as well as regular funding of leading-edge equipment, clinical education and research.
TJ is an avid supporter of Heartbeat and has supported them numerous times in recent years. In 2021, TJ’s Commercial and Operations Manager Paul Smith ran the London Marathon in aid of the charity, raising over £1,500.
TJ has donated two skips to Heartbeat House – a 24-bedroom house that accommodates the friends and family of patients receiving cardiac care on the Wessex Cardiac Unit – in recent years, enabling them to undertake projects without incurring waste disposal costs.
In 2022, TJ donated a skip to facilitate a garden clearance at Heartbeat House, and then another the following year to assist with a house clearance they were undertaking.
The Heart & Stroll event is taking place for the first time on Sunday 29 June and involves a gentle 5km stroll around Southampton Common. Families and furry friends are welcome to join and enjoy some exercise and fresh air whilst raising much-needed funds for Heartbeat.
Along the walk, there will be some surprises and activities to keep participants engaged and involved. As you cross the finishing line you will receive a Heart & Stroll medal before enjoying some incredible performances and entertainment on stage with host Michael Kurn. There will also be a selection of stalls and food outlets on offer.
Tickets are £5 per adult if purchased in advance, or £10 on the day. Children and dogs go free, but must be registered with an accompanying adult over the age of 18. All proceeds will go towards the Heart Failure Unit D2 Ward Renovation, which Heartbeat is hoping will help it become the UK’s Leading Heart Failure Unit and help the unit to support more of our community’s cardiac patients.
Luke said: “It was really great to be involved in the publicity video for the Heart & Stroll event, which is sure to be a huge success. We’ve supported Heartbeat for a number of years and are pleased to continue to do so in order to help facilitate the renovation project, which will provide even greater care for cardiac patients.”
