TJ’s Managing Director, John Gosling, ran the London Marathon last week to raise money for the Rose Road Association, a charity that he has supported for many years. John completed the 26.2 miles in 3 hours 51 minutes, raising £2,825 for this fantastic cause.
The Rose Road Association is a charity that makes a positive difference to the lives of young people with disabilities. It provides direct care services including respite breaks, community outreach, holiday activities and advice for over 300 children and young adults with severe physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or autism. Based in Southampton, they also work across Hampshire and the surrounding counties and have been providing these services for over 70 years.
John first discovered Rose Road around 12 years ago, and has supported them in a range of ways since. TJ started supporting them soon after and between them, John and TJ have raised well over £20,000 for the charity.
In 2013, John undertook his first sporting event, the relay marathon, to raise money for Rose Road. Since then he has completed the Great South Run, the ABP Marathon and the London Marathon for them. He, and other members of the TJ team have also taken part in the charity’s annual triathlon event and attended dinner dances.
TJ Waste has made many donations to different Rose Road fundraisers as well as donating skips whenever a skip was needed. Skips have been used for premises clear-outs, outdoor space improvement projects, and for waste disposal during fundraising events.
In 2022, TJ pledged £300 to Rose Road’s Big Give Project, which in turn went on to generate a total of £6,000 from community donations. The project was launched last year to support the mental health of the children and young people under their care in the wake of the COVID lockdowns. The money has enabled the charity to re-integrate their young people into the community and to regain skills they lost during that time of isolation.
In September 2023, a team from TJ Waste walked the Test Way – walking up to 25.5 miles each – in support of Rose Road.
John said: “I ran the London Marathon for Rose Road in 2015, so it was good to run for them again on the 10-year anniversary. The day was very warm so it was challenging, but the atmosphere and support was amazing.”
