TJ commence project at Littlehampton Golf Club

TJ have won a contract to complete a project at Littlehampton Golf Club to modify and improve three of their 18 holes, as well as construct a new practice ground for club members’ and visitors’ use.

TJ have been taken on as the official contractor for the work, making them responsible for managing the various stages of the project, supplying materials and equipment and ensuring it is completed on time.

The work has recently commenced at the West Sussex golf club, with completion expected in 2022. For the modifications on the three holes, TJ will be creating new bunding around the edge of them to create differentiation between the holes and provide a more varied golfing experience for users. The bunds being built will be 20-30ft high and the design of them will mimic the sand dunes that Littlehampton’s West Beach is famed for.

TJ will also be constructing a new practice ground for the club, an area where golfers can practice their swing. TJ will oversee the importation of thousands of tonnes of soil to the site to construct the facility and will then carry out the shaping, screening and shaping work required.

The aggregates being used for this project will come from carefully selected construction sites where the clean inert material would otherwise be going to landfill. It will instead be tested, approved and diverted to this project, supporting TJ’s ethos for recycling and reusing as many materials as possible to conserve resources and divert from landfill.

Littlehampton Golf Club was founded in 1889 and offers a high quality 18-hole, 70 par course that allows you to enjoy stunning views of the sea and the beautiful South Downs as you go round. In 2019 the Golf Club was voted the 12th Best Course in Sussex, something the club is proud of and excited to improve upon in years to come.

This is the third golf club improvement project that TJ has been awarded in the last 18 months. The first was at Stoneham Golf Club, a project to create an enhanced and modern driving range and practice facility. The works, which have now entered the final phase, were undertaken to improve the Club’s practice and teaching facilities and in line with their strategic 5-year plan.

Skylark Golf and Country Club employed TJ’s services after seeing the excellent work that was being carried out at Stoneham. TJ raised and improved a bund that surrounds the existing compound to make it more aesthetically pleasing; a project that took around six weeks and has given the course a more professional look and feel.

TJ’s Commercial Director, Steve Grant said:

“We’re thrilled to be working on this project at Littlehampton Golf Club. We’re gaining more and more experience in improving golf course facilities and managing the often large-scale projects in their entirety. It seems that our reputation for successfully completing this type of work has preceded us a couple of times now and we look forward to another great project outcome.”
