TJ donates skip to Rowans Hospice

TJ Waste donated a skip to Rowans Hospice this month, enabling them to easily dispose of waste from a number of recent projects, both internal and external.

When the Rowans’ team got in touch to enquire about a discounted rate on a skip, we were  more than happy to offer one free of charge in support of the Hospice. What’s more, we delivered the 12 yard skip two days later so as not to delay the work.

One project involved the deconstruction of the Rowans’ Seasons Cafe to repurpose the space for other uses, which meant removing counters, white goods and flooring. Another project involved another part of the Hospice being transformed into a new Family Area, so the flooring had to be removed here also. In addition, the Rowans’ gardening volunteers have also utilised the skip to clear out the Hospice’s shed and garden areas to improve the outside areas.

Rowans Hospice, which is located in Purbrook, Hampshire, provides palliative and end of life care to the highest quality for those living with a life-limiting illness in the Southeast of Hampshire. Their highly trained hospice carers help to improve quality of life for the patient by easing physical symptoms as well as offering psychological, spiritual and social support to both patients and their loved ones.

Their dedicated hospice care is available round the clock either in house or at home, or for day visitors in their Living Well Centre. The care provided by Rowans is free of charge; they are a charity with 90% of their income generated by legacies, donations, fundraising and retail shops. Generous donations and fundraising allows the Hospice to provide this much-needed support to the community and make a difference to so many lives.

We delivered the skip to the Hospice’s main building on the agreed date, liaising with Rowans’ staff on the day to ensure the skip was positioned in the optimum place.

We also supported the Rowans’ Christmas Tree Collection Initiative in January, which aims to reduce waste whilst raising vital funds for the charity. On Friday 10 and Saturday 11 January 2025, residents in dedicated PO-postcodes had their real Christmas trees collected and recycled in return for a £20 donation, which went into the Hospice’s fundraising pot.

Head of Fundraising & Marketing, Yvonne Penny-Filewod said: “We are so grateful for TJ Waste’s continued support in providing their services free of charge to help us save money, but also for their incredible support with our first Christmas Tree Collections, which helped us raise £3,479.54 for the Hospice.”

At TJ, our skip hire service is fast and flexible, offering deliveries as quickly as the next working day (subject to availability) and in sizes from 2 yard up to 12 yard as well as 17 and 35 yard commercial roll on roll off skips suitable for large commercial projects.

We also offer a Man and Van service for other types of waste removal including office recycling collections, confidential waste, site clearance and disposal of materials that are traditionally tricky to dispose of, such as mattresses, fridge freezers and POPs items (upholstered items such as sofas and dining chairs). We work in partnership with a range of third party organisations to dispose of these materials correctly and in the most sustainable way possible.
