Skip hire for manufacturing

The UK is the ninth largest manufacturing nation in the world, with the total value of UK manufacturers’ product sales totalling £396.6 billion in 2019. Manufacturing equates to 11% of the UK’s GVA and employs 2.7 million people.

Manufacturing is a varied industry and as such utilises a lot of materials and produces a variety of waste which needs to be handled and disposed of in the correct way.

There are a few options to choose from when it comes to waste disposal, the main ones being grab hire or skip hire. Grab hire is great for one-off waste removal as waste can be removed from your site quickly and efficiently, but if you have ongoing waste disposal requirements, skip hire may be the more suitable option.

SKIP OPTIONS

At TJ we offer a range of skips to suit every requirement. Our smaller skips are suitable for small to medium domestic jobs, but for manufacturing premises or factories, a larger skip or industrial roll on roll off (RORO) skip will probably be required.

8 YARD MEGA SKIP

The 8 yard mega skip is the most popular skip size in the UK, perfect for large, bulky items as well as heavy waste. In terms of capacity, it is able to accommodate approximately 60-80 bin bags’ worth (depending on the type of waste you are disposing of) but this should give you a good idea of how much it will take.

12 YARD JUMBO SKIP

The 12 yard jumbo skip can hold approximately 120 bags of waste and accommodate large amounts of high volume waste such as metal, wood, plastics and packaging. It’s important to note that skips of this size are not suitable for heavy loads such as rubble and concrete, as it will make the skip too heavy to be lifted once full.

17 YARD RORO SKIP

RORO skips such as our 17 yarders offer a simple, effective and affordable solution for removing a vast range of different types of waste. They are ideal for disposing of a range of waste such as wood, metal and plastic.

35 YARD RORO SKIP

Our largest skip, the 35 yard RORO is ideal for large scale operations. These skips are perfectly suited to the disposal of large quantities of light, bulky waste, but they can also accommodate heavier materials such as wood, metal, plastics, glass and industrial waste.

SKIP EXCHANGE

You could opt to go for a ‘skip exchange’ arrangement whereby your full skip is taken away and replaced with an empty one, giving you a constant waste disposal option on-site. This works well because as soon as the skip is approaching capacity, you can call us and schedule an exchange to ensure seamless disposal. We will arrive on time and do the swap quickly and efficiently so that your business can continue as usual. We can be on and off site in as little as 30 minutes!

TYPES OF WASTE

Skips can be filled with a range of different types of waste, so whatever line of manufacturing you’re in, our skip hire service will be able to take care of your waste disposal for you. Below is a list of materials commonly disposed of in our skips – please get in touch to ask about unusual types of waste not listed here:

MANUFACTURING CASE STUDY:

Mitie at Rolls Royce

Mitie provides facilities management, consultancy, project management and a range of specialist services that connect people with innovation and technology. They are the resident contractor for the Rolls Royce sites at Chichester and Bognor, where they look after waste and recycling on site to ensure that Rolls Royce’s 0% waste to landfill tolerance is upheld.

The requirement

Mitie required skips at the two Rolls Royce sites; the Chichester manufacturing site where the cars are built, and the Bognor warehouse site, where spare parts are stored and dispatched from. The skip deliveries and collections will need to be done on an ad-hoc basis, which can sometimes be at short notice, with occasional additional skips also being requested. Mitie wanted to partner with a like-minded company to themselves – pro recycling – and one that was experienced and customer-focused.

The solution

Mitie awarded the contract to TJ because they could see that commitment to recycling and diversion from landfill were top priorities. TJ now supplies ad hoc skips to the two sites, ensuring all drop-offs and pick-ups are carried out safely and efficiently. They understand that all waste leaving the sites must be weighed and this is then recorded on Rolls Royce’s database so that waste generated per car built can be estimated. All waste is sorted and segregated, ensuring as much as possible is recycled or reused.

The outcome

Mitie Site Manager Brett Jones said:

“I knew of TJ before I worked for Mitie and I’ve watched them grow as a company. It’s great to support local businesses and TJ’s reputation precedes them. The service they provide is excellent and their documentation is spot on. TJ delivers fantastic service at a good price and they always bend over backwards to provide exceptional service as well as any extras we require. They’re trustworthy and friendly and I’d highly recommend them.”
