Skip exchange for Quay Building Services

COMPANY BACKGROUND

Quay Building Services is a Hampshire-based company that takes on a wide variety of projects including small maintenance jobs, bespoke carpentry, house extensions, loft conversions, commercial jobs and more. They’ve been running since 2018 and pride themselves on their high quality workmanship.

THE REQUIREMENT

Quay landed two contracts earlier this year to undertake renovation work at two domestic properties on the same residential road in Emsworth. In order to get the job turned around in the required timescale, they needed two 12 yard builders’ skips – one on each site – to collect the waste that would be generated swiftly throughout the jobs.

One of the projects is a complete house renovation including a timber frame second storey extension. The second project is an internal downstairs reconfiguration and renovation. These projects require mixed waste skips as various types of waste needed to be disposed of.

THE SOLUTION

Quay purchased two 12-yard skips from TJ on a skip-exchange basis; this is a service that TJ provides where they hire a skip to a customer on a longer-term basis and agree to replace the skip with an empty one whenever it becomes full. All waste is taken back to one of TJ’s Materials Recovery Facilities for sorting and segregating.

Christian Cole, who founded Quay Building Services, had used TJ’s waste management services before and was keen to work with us again. He said: “The skip exchange arrangement has worked well, we simply contact TJ when the skip is full and needs replacing with an empty one. The exchanges have been swift and hassle-free each time, ensuring a smooth process.”

THE CHALLENGE

The potential challenge was getting the skips emptied in a timely fashion as these are fast-paced jobs, but the TJ team are always extremely responsive and able to book in skip swaps as and when they were needed.

THE OUTCOME

Christian said: “We’re always pleased with the service we receive from TJ. Whether I make the request directly to Luke Haskell, who I’ve worked with before, or through the office, I receive the same great service. They always accommodate our needs to ensure that the empty skip is delivered on our preferred date.”

He added: “I chose TJ because I wanted to partner with a responsible company for our waste management and I know that TJ ticks all those boxes. Plus, as a larger skip hire company, they’re able to provide us with what we need, when we need it as they have ample resources, which is ideal.”
