National Gardening Week 1-7 May 2023

It’s National Gardening Week (1-7 May 2023), which is run by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to raise awareness of gardening and horticulture, and to encourage more people to get involved!

Since the pandemic, it’s fair to say that we’ve all appreciated our outdoor spaces a little more. Research shows that gardening can significantly improve our wellbeing and as we’ve just celebrated Stress Awareness Month in April, now’s the ideal time to explore ways of lowering our stress levels.

National Gardening Week, which was launched in 2012, is the nation’s biggest celebration of gardening and highlights the difference that gardens and gardening can make to people’s lives. It inspires the next generation of gardeners to experience the joy of growing and creating beautiful green spaces.

The theme for 2023 is ‘create your coronation container’ to celebrate His Majesty King Charles III and his love of horticulture. The King is known as a champion of the environment and a supporter of the nation’s passion for gardening, so the RHS invites people to produce jubilant planting schemes to mark the beginning of his reign.

Join the celebrations on the RHS’ social media channels: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You can share images of your creations that capture the Coronation spirit using the hashtag #nationalgardeningweek.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED IN NATIONAL GARDENING WEEK…

Treat your garden to some tlc

After a long and harsh winter, your garden is probably crying out for a bit of attention! Invest in skip or grab hire with TJ and get your garden cleared so it’s looking its best for the summer months.  It’ll feel great to get the job done and your outside space will look so much better for it!

Get planting

Whether your garden is big or small, you have a balcony or window boxes, there are options for every set up. From herbs and spices to plants and flowers, whatever you choose to grow can take up as little or as much space as you have!

Enjoy the spring sunshine

Spring is here and the temperatures will soon be warming up (we hope!), so be sure to get out there and enjoy it! Even if you don’t feel like taking on a big garden project right now, why not do a bit of weeding and tidying to get some fresh air and enjoy a bit of sunshine?

Invite a green-fingered friend round

Most of us have at least one friend or family member who knows a lot about gardening, so if you’re not a big gardener, but want to improve your outside space, why not invite them round and ask for their input? It’s a great chance to catch up with a friend, you’re likely to learn something new and you’ll benefit from just being outside!

Kickstart that project

Why not use National Gardening Week as a prompt to get started on that garden project you’ve been thinking about? Perhaps you want to re-turf the lawn, replace the patio or clear out some shrubs and bushes – whatever it is, now’s the ideal time!

SKIP HIRE

At TJ we offer a range of skips to suit every requirement, from 2 yard right up to 35 yard! Check out our skip hire pages for details of the capacity and dimensions of each skip size, along with helpful videos that will make choosing the skip you need quick and easy.

Our standard skip hire period is up to 14 days, but if you book a short hire of 4 days or less, you can enjoy a 5% discount at the time of booking. We also offer ‘skip exchange’, whereby you can opt to have your full skip taken away and replaced with an empty one at your convenience, which is ideal for longer projects with larger volumes of waste, giving you a constant waste disposal option on-site.

If you’d like to know exactly what waste can and cannot go into a skip before you book, check out our blog What can you put in a skip? Once you’ve decided to go for it, you can book your skip instantly online using our simple booking system. Just choose the skip size you need, input your postcode and waste type and add to cart!

GRAB HIRE

Grab hire is ideal for garden waste and soil. Our drivers are skilled at accessing properties and premises and can be on and off site in less than half an hour. What’s more, as the waste is taken away immediately, it’s not cluttering up your property for days or weeks after you’ve discarded it.

Our grab vehicles can be used at properties with low walls and fencing – removing the need to move the waste manually. Our fleet is readily available meaning you can book a grab as quickly as the next working day if you wish. Prices start from just £150 so it’s a really cost-effective way to get rid of your waste!

If you’re undertaking a garden project, why not utilise our skip hire services and let us take care of the waste disposal for you? We can also provide grab hire and supply any aggregates you need – for more information, please get in touch.
