TJ donate to Portsmouth Creates
TJ have made a donation to a crowdfunding project set up to support creatives in the Portsmouth area who have experienced hard times since COVID-19 hit in the UK.
The project was set up by Portsmouth Creates, a community interest company that supports artists and creatives in the Portsmouth area, giving everyone the opportunity to take part in Portsmouth’s dynamic cultural scene.
The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the creative industries all over the world and Portsmouth is no exception. Many artists and creatives have been left without any work or any paid outlets for their creative talents.
Portsmouth Creates reacted to this by launching a new project in June: “We Believe – expressions of hope & optimism for our city beyond Covid-19”. The project has made it possible to provide £500 micro-commissions to 20 local artists who have been unable to access financial support via the Small Business Grant or Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Grant.
The project offers financial support to local artists as well as giving them the chance to showcase their talent. The commissioned artists have been tasked with filling the city’s outdoor poster boards with original and inspirational artwork and creating a physical art trail along the seafront and in the north of the city for the public to enjoy.
Portsmouth Creates was established in 2019 and as a community interest company, it relies on donations, investment, funding and sponsors to remain operational. The first year has been funded by investment from Portsmouth City Council, The University of Portsmouth, the Arts Council England, Victorious festival and private investors.
When TJ was contacted by the company to ask if they would like to support this project, they were happy to do so. As a Portsmouth-based company themselves, TJ wanted to pledge their support for the city’s artists as well as help enable their work to be enjoyed by others at this challenging time.
Be sure to take a wander along the We Believe arts trail and take a look. Discover the exact locations of the artwork and more about the artists themselves before you head off.
