The Great British Spring Clean: 20 March – 13 April

The Great British Spring Clean is an initiative set up by charity Keep Britain Tidy. Its aim is to get people thinking about the importance of looking after our environment and to volunteer to take part in clean-ups and litter picks in their local area. The campaign will run for 25 days and so far over 323,000 people have volunteered to help.

There are three ways that you can get involved; you can offer to host a clean-up, take part in a clean-up or simply go on a litter pick of your own. The latter could be done whilst walking the dog or walking the kids to school so even the busiest of us can lend a hand! Find out more about the initiative and sign up today.

It is everyone’s responsibility to keep our country tidy; it’s hard to believe that anyone litters in this day and age when we are now so aware of the consequences of neglecting our planet. Looking after our environment is something that TJ feels strongly about and to demonstrate this TJ are always keen to support litter picking initiatives in the South Coast area. We are happy to provide free skip hire to house all rubbish gathered on organised litter picks – get in touch if you’d like us to help.

TJ has also worked closely with non-profit Community Interest Company The Final Straw Solent, whose work revolves around highlighting the impact of plastic pollution on our environment, local seas and wider oceans. TJ has assisted them on several occasions, providing free skip hire for litter picks and also emptying Nellie the fish – a huge metal structure designed for collecting plastic bottles for recycling – when no one else would help.

Lissie Pollard from the Final Straw Solent was thrilled that TJ Waste pulled out the stops to help. She said: “Since June, we estimate that Nellie has collected around 16,000 plastic bottles for recycling. She has visited 14 locations to date and all the logistics have worked smoothly until she visited Winchester, where we found it really difficult to find someone to help empty her. We called the team at TJ Waste because they have helped us before on beach cleans and they got it all sorted within 24 hours. We are so grateful that they made the process so easy and helped us for no charge – we cannot thank them enough!”

Have your own spring clean!

As well as doing your bit to help your local community, why not take this opportunity to have your own spring clean? It could be a clear out of the house, loft, garage or even garden! All of these activities can generate a lot of unwanted items, but don’t worry, TJ’s skip hire service can be of help.

With skips ranging from 2 yard to 12-yard for our standard skips, there’s something to suit every clear out! Check out our individual skip pages to see dimensions and get a better idea of which skip you need.

To give you added peace of mind, please remember that TJ recycles up to 100% of the waste that they process so you know that everything that you put into your skip will be sorted thoroughly to ensure that everything that can be reused or recycled will be. This comes from TJ’s drive to divert as much waste from landfill as possible.
