TJ Waste – why choose us?

Everyone knows the jingle: “Number 1 on the South Coast – TJ Waste” – that says it all really! We’re well known on the south coast and beyond, and our reputation for excellence precedes us. Our skips can be found throughout the southern region on driveways and commercial premises alike.

Likewise, our grab lorries and sweeper lorries are frequently seen on the roads as they go about their business of delivering muck away and clean-up services. Over the 29 years we’ve been operating, we’ve built up strong partnerships with like-minded organisations, charities and those in the recycling industry, which allows us to continue to evolve and develop.

TJ Waste is part of TJ Group, with the other part being TJ Transport, the haulage arm of the company. We operate from TJ’s HQ in Fareham, Hampshire, with four Materials Recovery Facilities dotted along the south coast at Southampton, Portsmouth and Yapton. These facilities are where all the waste we remove and handle is taken for sorting, segregating and onward recycling.

We’re dedicated to diverting waste from landfill and we have established recycling routes for a wide range of materials from the standard items, to the more tricky materials such as rubble, hard plastics, mattresses and fridges. Any materials that cannot be reused or recycled are directed down the Energy from Waste path wherever possible. We process all materials in line with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) protocol.

OUR SERVICES

We offer a range of services to the domestic, commercial, construction, manufacturing, utilities and facilities management sectors. These include:

We pride ourselves on our reliability; customers can rest assured that the product or service you’ve employed us to deliver will arrive when expected, without fuss.

Communication
We keep in touch with our customers every step of the way, so you’re well informed at all times.

Well maintained fleet and skips
Our vehicles are our crowning glory and we take great care in ensuring every aspect of our fleet is immaculate. We run a continuous renewal scheme and our drivers conduct daily checks to ensure safety. We also have a full-time welder on staff to carry out routine maintenance and ad hoc repairs to our skips to make sure they are in the best condition possible.

Quality provision
Everything we do is driven by quality, from the customer service we provide and the vehicles we use, to the aggregates we supply and the jobs we complete on your behalf.

Safety first
We take health and safety very seriously and we have a dedicated compliance department to ensure safety standards are met.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

As part of our duty of care, it is our intention to reduce our carbon footprint by signing up to a carbon credit scheme to offset our usage. It is likely that we will enter into a commitment to plant a tree for every skip we sell.

Passionate about diverting waste from landfill
We’ve made it one of our core missions to divert as much waste as possible from landfill; not only is it expensive, but it’s also detrimental to the environment and cannot be sustained long-term. We endeavour to recycle up to 100% of the waste we handle and we do this by utilising our extensive network of recycling partners as well as seeking out new routes for waste disposal, whether that be new avenues for recycling, new processes or other options for Energy from Waste or biomass disposal.

Plastic recycling
We’re heavily invested in recycling as much plastic as possible as well as continually searching for new and innovative ways of recycling different types of plastic. In 2019 we established a new recycling process for certain types of plastics, which we knew would be ideal for one of our clients, Jude’s Ice Cream. Their unwanted plastic ice cream tubs and offcuts are now made into a new product – pellets – which can be moulded into new plastic products.

Mattress recycling
2020 saw us secure a recycling route for mattresses, a product that in the past may have ended up being sent to landfill as no other options were available. We’ve formed an agreement with a third party recycling facility to dispose of large numbers of used mattresses each year; a new route that will make the process easier as well as more eco-friendly.

Helping in the fight against fly tipping
We’re always eager to assist with fly-tipping incidents; it’s something we’re well-placed to deal with and at short notice if needed. Our fleet of vans and grab lorries, along with our range of skips, can deal with pretty much any fly-tipping scenario that presents itself. In the past we’ve dealt with illegally dumped liquids and hazardous materials, which presented dangers to the surrounding area and those in it, making our ability to respond quickly key.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

As a company, we like to give a little something back to the local community and in recent years we’ve provided a range of support including:

  • Waste disposal services provided free of charge to the Moving On Project Portsmouth, a charity that helps families or individuals that are experiencing financial hardship whilst setting up their first home or in replacing household items.
  • We have sponsored the Portsmouth Coastal Waterside Marathon for the past five years, providing overall support for the event as well as supplying much-needed waste management services free of charge.
  • We have supported the Rose Road Association since 2013, raising over £18,000 for them over that time. Most recently, we supplied two skips to assist them with a landscaping project and provided a donation to the Big Give Project.
  • Skips donated to a range of charities including Solent Mind, Wessex Heartbeat and Petersfield RFC.
